Meet Jacquie Ashmore…
Jacqueline Ashmore
Executive Vice President, Engineering
Ever since she was a kid, Jacqueline Ashmore has been curious about how to use knowledge to create a better world. She’s hungry for urgent problems to solve—always pondering what impact she’s having, and how that’s changing over time.
After pursuing her undergraduate studies in mathematics at the University of Oxford, Jacquie went on to earn her PhD from the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. Early in her career, she worked in technology development, but when she happened upon Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) data on global average temperatures in the late 2000s, everything changed. She was galvanized. She knew she needed to be part of the solution.
Jacquie began her career pivot into clean energy as the Head of Science and Innovation at the British Consulate, focused on cleantech/energy, innovation, and life sciences. After a stretch of science-based advocacy, she felt the familiar pull of technology, which led her to engineer solar systems as the Engineering Program Manager at the Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems. She then co-founded the Institute for Sustainable Energy at Boston University, where she held multiple posts over four years, and discovered an abiding love for teaching and mentorship. In 2021, she landed at Borrego (now New Leaf) as the VP of Development Engineering, where she was able to focus on the urgent need to transition to renewable energy, developing increasingly larger-scale projects.
In building and nurturing her team at New Leaf, Jacquie is always thinking about the balance between what each individual can and wants to contribute, and how that meshes with what the business needs and wants to do. And in every employee, she looks first and foremost for a passion for learning—a willingness to learn paired with the humility of a beginner’s mind.
Throughout her career, Jacquie has been actively involved in several nonprofits that work to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the clean energy sector, including New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE), Browning the Green Space, and All In Energy, helping these nonprofits to grow and have an impact. At New Leaf Energy, she is a tireless champion of this work, collaborating with the rest of the leadership team to make sure it’s core to the mission.
Jacquie lives with her husband and two daughters in Arlington. When she has a spare moment, you’ll find her enjoying the beauty of New England on a run or a bike ride, reading a good book, or enjoying some tasty food.
